San Andrés is an archaeological site and park of Maya culture located in the department of La Libertad. Once the capital of a Maya kingdom that dominated the surrounding region known as El Valle de Zapotitán, its initial occupation dates back to 900 BCE, beginning as an agricultural settlement in the valley. This early period was interrupted by a massive eruption of the Lake Ilopango caldera but was later reoccupied between 600 CE and 900 CE, alongside other sites in the area.

During the 45-minute tour of this acropolis, you can admire its four main structures, including pyramids, plazas, and a unique bell-shaped structure. The site spans an estimated area of 3 square kilometers, not including smaller surrounding sites.
